Bengaluru: The Congress in Karnataka has deleted a tweet labelling Prime Minister Narendra Modi as illiterate, also expressing regret for what it called an ‘uncivil tweet’ posted by a ‘novice social media manager’.
After a political row erupted over a tweet by Karnataka Congress about Modi, Karnataka Congress president DK Shivakumar asked his social media team to remove the tweet and take strict action against the people involved in posting it.
The Opposition party wrote in Kannada, ‘Congress built schools but Modi never went to study. Congress even set up schemes for adults to learn, Modi didn’t learn there too. Even though begging is prohibited, people who are lazy have made the countryās people beggars. The country is suffering because of #angoothachhaapmodi.’
After uproar, Shivakumar took to Twitter to express his regret over the tweet which used the phrase āangootha chhaapā to insinuate that PM Modi is illiterate.
He said that he has always believed that ‘civil and parliamentary language is a non-negotiable pre-requisite for political discourse’. He added that the ‘uncivil tweet made by a novice social media manager through the Karnataka Congress official Twitter handle’ was regretted and stands withdrawn.
