Chennai: State Health Minister M Subramanian has said that the Tamilnadu government will take up vaccination of children below 18 years of age if the Medical Council of India and the World Health Organisation make an announcement in this regard.
Speaking to the media, he said that the State government had already placed a request in this regard with the Union government. He added that there should not be any complacency among the public that the Covid-19 regulations could be overlooked in view of the reduction in number of positive cases in the State.
Meanwhile, Subramanian has said the State government has sought the approval of the Medical Council of India (MCI) to add 800 more MBBS seats this year.
The Minister said the MCI had already granted permission to admit 850 students in the MBBS course in seven new medical colleges in the State.
Also, appealing to citizens to consider donating bones as a part of cadaveric donations, he said bone donations can improve the quality of life of patients, including those diagnosed and operated for bone cancers.
