Chennai: Around 2,000 cases have been registered by police across Tamilnadu against those who violated the Supreme Court directives in respect of firecrackers.
According to sources, the total number of cases registered across the State is approximately 2,000 and it includes violations in respect of the two-hour time slab fixed by the apex court to burst firecrackers on Deepavali.
Despite promotion of green crackers and time restrictions, Chennai’s air pollution levels reached hazardous levels during Deepavali.
The Air quality Index (AQI) was found to be very poor in all monitoring stations in Chennai on Deepavali. Ambient noise level ranged from 55 to 66 decibel – dB(A) on Wednesday pre-Deepavali and 69 to 79 dB(A) on Thursday.
