Chennai: In view of a low-pressure area that is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbouring areas on 9 November, more than 12 districts of Tamilnadu would experience heavy rains for the next two days, weather officials said.
N Puviarasan, Director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, said, ‘As the atmospheric mantle circulation extends up to 5.8 km prevailing in the central-west Bengal Sea and adjacent coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, a low-pressure area is likely to form over southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbouring regions on November 9 (Tuesday). Thereafter, the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, and delta districts of Tamil Nadu are likely to witness heavy rain along with thunderstorm for the next two days.’
He further said that the rest of Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal areas may receive moderate rains for the next 48 hours. In Chennai, the sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy. Thunderstorm with light to moderate showers is likely to occur in some areas.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea due to the cyclonic storm likely to reach 40 kmph to 50 kmph in the central and western Bay of Bengal, Southern Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka coast till Sunday.
Heavy rain is also likely to occur at isolated places over Salem, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Erode, Namakkal, Tirupattur, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Perambalur and Ariyalur districts.
