Chennai: West Mambalam-based Gokul (8) sustained a severe fire cracker injury in his left eye during this Deepavali and lost his vision in that eye totally.
Gokul had traumatic cataract, blood in the anterior chamber ( hyphema), iridodialysis, vitreous haemorrhage, retinal detachment etc.
A team of surgeons from Rajan Eye Care Hospital led by Dr Sujatha Mohan and Dr Mohan Rajan performed a marathon surgery on this boy under general anaesthesia. The surgery lasted for two hours. Post operatively, the boy has regained 80 percent vision.
Since the boy is from an economically poor family, the whole surgery was done free of cost under ROPES (Rotary Paediatric Eye Surgery) project implemented by Rajan Eye Care Hospital, T.Nagar.
