Following heavy rain that has affected normal life in several districts across the State, Chief Minister M K Stalin reviewed the flood situation with senior Ministers and officials in the Secretariat, and relief works have been taken up in war-footing.

People in low-lying areas have been sent to safer places. Community kitchens have been set up to feed the needy.

The State government has constituted a seven-member ministerial committee led by Cooperative Minister I Periasamy to assess crop damage in Delta districts. Heavy rains in the State, especially in delta region during the last few days have left crops submerged. About 6000 acres of the total 31.76 acres of horticulture crops cultivated in the state were inundated.

Though the recent rains that drowned Chennai and neighbouring areas remind one of the havoc 2015, the loss of life is comparatively less. Damage to property, business, and crops is yet to be estimated as the authorities are at present concentrating on relief, rescue, and rehabilitation of people whose houses have been submerged. Scenes change, problems remain to be the same. Seems no lesson learnt.
