Chennai: Even as heavy rains are lashing various parts of Tamilnadu including Chennai and its suburbs, a fresh low pressure is likely to form over South Andaman sea on 29 November.
Sources said the LP area to form on 29 November is likely to become more marked and move west-northwestwards during the subsequent 48 hours.
Meanwhile, the met office has predicted heavy to very heavy rains in southern districts for the next 24 hours and heavy rains in coastal and delta districts as the cyclonic circulation lay centred over southwest Bay of Bengal off south Sri Lanka coast.
There will be heavy rains in Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Nagapattinam, Ramanathapuram an Pudukottai districts and the Met office has issued Red alert to these districts.
As heavy rains battered the southern districts, Thoothukudi Tirunelveli and Pudukottai which received close to 18 cms of rain in eight hours, the authorities have declared a holiday for schools and colleges today. Schools have been declared holiday in Chennai too.
Rain waters entered the famous Tiruchendur temple, one of the six abodes of Lord Muruga, causing inconvenience to the devotees. The water however receded this morning and devotees were able to have darshan of the Almighty.
