Karur: In a sudden twist in the suicide of a Class 12 girl alleging sexual harassment, a 42-year-old male teacher of the same school committed suicide by hanging at his father-in-law’s house in Tiruchirapalli district late.

Police said that the deceased was identified as Saravanan. He was working as a Mathematics teacher in the private school in Karur.

He availed one hour permission from the school authorities and left. But, he did not return to the school thereafter. Even as his family members were searching for him, his mobile phone was switched off.

Later, the teacher was found hanging in his father-in-law’s house at Senkattupatti village near Thuraiyur in Tiruchirapalli district.

Police visited the spot and removed the body to the government hospital for post mortem.

A handwritten suicide note was found in the diary of Saravanan, in which he stated that some students were mistaking him for the suicide of the girl student and was ashamed of himself in front of students.

Claiming that he has nothing to do with the suicide of the girl, the teacher said he is ending his life over depression. Thuraiyur police have registered a case and are investigating.

It may be recalled that a 17-year-old Class 12 girl student of committed suicide by hanging in her house at Vengamedu in Karur district, alleging sexual harassment on Friday last.

Police recovered a suicide note in the house in which the girl stated that she should be the last person to die of sexual harassment.

‘I am scared to reveal the identity of the person who made me to take this decision. I wanted to live. No girl should die like me, henceforth’, the girl said.
