New Delhi: Vice President of India and Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu today urged the government and the opposition to find a way to end the stalemate over the suspension of 12 members of the House.
After the House passed a resolution on Monday moved by the government to suspend the members for ‘unruly behaviour’ on the last day of the Monsoon Session, Opposition lawmakers have been protesting against the decision.
‘A message is sought to be sent out that āsacrilegeā of the House is democratic but action against such sacrilege is undemocratic. I am sure the people of the country would not buy these new norms of democracy,’ Venkaiah said.
‘It is human to err and it is also human to make amends. One can not refuse to amend and insist on glossing over the wrongdoings,’ he said.
Naidu added: ‘You donāt want to regret your misconduct but insist on revoking the decision of this House taken as per due process stipulated under the Rules of the House. Does this amount to upholding the principles of democracy.’
