Covid-19: India records 7,992 new cases and 393 deaths

New Delhi: With 7,992 fresh infections, India’s Coronavirus caseload rose to 3,46,682,736 today.

According to Union Health Ministry data updated this morning, the country’s Covid-19 death toll climbed to 4,75,128 with 393 new fatalities.

The number of active cases has declined to 93,277, the lowest in 559 days.Ā The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 3,41,14,331.

The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the Covid-19 vaccination drive has exceeded 131.99 crore.

India’s Covid-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on 7 August, 2020, 30 lakh on 23 August; 40 lakh on 5 September and 50 lakh on 16 September. It went past 60 lakh on 28 September; 70 lakh on 11 October, crossed 80 lakh on 29 October; 90 lakh on 20 November and surpassed the crore mark on 19 December last year. India crossed two crore Covid-19 cases on 4 May and three crore cases on 23 June.

The Ministry said that more than 70 per cent of the deaths have occurred due to comorbidities.

BJP candidate Devasish Sharma has polled 4,10,738 votes in the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election, extending his lead over AIUDF chief Mohammed Badruddin Ajmal to 1,06,969 votes, according to the Election Commission of India as of 2.26 pm. Ajmal has secured 3,03,769 votes.
