Thangamani

Chennai: Raids started this morning at 14 properties linked to former Minister and AIADMK leader P Thangamani in connection with a disproportionate assets case filed against him.

This is the second time this month that the Directorate and Anti Corruption (DVAC) officials were conducting raids at properties linked to Thangamani, prompting calls of ‘political vendetta’ by the AIADMK.

Sources said today’s searches were a follow-up to the recent raids and the outcome would be known later today. The DVAC has registered a case against Thangamani, his wife T Shanthi and his son T Dharanidharan for possession of disproportionate assets.

Recently, searches took place in 69 places, including 14 in Chennai. Raids were being conducted in Vellore, Salem, Karur, Namakkal, Tirupur and Coimbatore in Tamilnadu and also in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Sources said FIR was filed against Thangamani and his family members under the Prevention of Corruption Act Sections 13(2), 13 (1)(e), 109, 13 (2), 12, 13, (1), (b).

Earlier, similar raids were conducted against former AIADMK Ministers S P Velumani, Veeramani and Vijayabaskar, it may be recalled.
