Chennai: The Madras High Court Thursday quashed the Goondas Act slapped on social media commentator Kishore K Swamy for making derogatory remarks against women journos.
A Division Bench comprising Justice P N Prakash and Justice R Hemalatha quashed the order passed by Greater Chennai Commissioner of Police in June this year detaining him under the Goondas Act.
The Bench said Kishore Swamy had already been in prison for nearly six months and hence there was no point in prolonging it further and asked the petitioner’s counsel to apply for bail in the individual criminal cases in which the police had arrested him.
Police have registered a total of six cases against him for offences that included making derogatory remarks against women journalists.
