Chennai: As many as 607 cases of Covid-19 were reported in Tamilnadu on Thursday, including 11 imported — two cases each from Europe, the UK, and the US, and three cases from Andhra Pradesh and two from West Bengal — taking the total number of cases in the State to 27,42,224.
The sharpest rise in infections was reported from Chengalpet, Chennai, Cuddalore, and Ranipet.
Two passengers each from Europe, the UK, and the US tested positive for the viral infection. In addition, three people from Andhra and two others from Bengal who came by road also tested positive.
As many as eight people succumbed to the virus, pushing the toll to 36,707, a medical bulletin said.
Meanwhile, recoveries outnumbered new infections with 689 people getting discharged in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 26,98,628 leaving 6,889 active cases.
As many as 1,03,938 samples were tested, taking the total number of samples tested so far to 5,66,22,301.
