Chennai: Taking a serious note of the looming Omicron threat, the Tamilnadu Government Doctors Association (TNGDA) has urged Chief Minister
MK Stalin seeking curbs on social gatherings at theatres, jallikattu events and festival venues.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, TNGDA State president Dr K Senthil said since the Omicron variant of Covid-19 is fast spreading, bringing in
restrictions is the need of the hour.
He added: ‘It is necessary to announce curbs on social gatherings including meetings, festivals, celebrations, movieĀ theatres, temples and jallikattu venues.’
Meanwhile, Stalin on Friday appealed to the public to avoid crowding at public places during the ensuing festival days. He stressed that medical experts are of the view that the spread of Covid-19 and its Omicron variant might increase due to crowds.
