Chennai: A statue of Dravidar Kazhagam founder E V Ramasamy (Periyar) was found vandalised near Ponneri bus stand this morning. Soon after, a man identified as Chellakili surrendered before the police claiming that he damaged the statue using an iron rod.
The police rushed to the spot and covered the statue with a cloth. Sources said the statue will be given a facelift soon.
While it was not yet clear why Chellakilli damaged the statue, members of the Dravidar Kazhagam staged a protest demanding action against him.
Police said further investigations are on.
