Expressing concerns over the starvation level in Afghanistan, the World Food Programme has said the organisation needs up to USD 2.6 billion to provide food to Afghan people.

People have run out of vegetables, meat, and dairy at a time when malnutrition is on the rise that hardly affects children under 5 and pregnant women. Families are resorting to selling their home items in order to feed family members.

Humanitarian organisations have repeatedly warned of a severe crisis amid the cold winter in Afghanistan. The UN earlier said that it has collected $1.5 billion to tackle the Afghan crisis.
Meanwhile, India on Friday sent a large consignment of medicines to Afghanistan. The humanitarian assistance consisting of two tons of ‘essential life saving’ medicines was handed over to the Indira Gandhi Children Hospital in Kabul.
