Fresh high of Covid cases in TN


Chennai: For the first time this year, the number of people testing positive for Covid-19 in Tamilnadu crossed 15,000 on Tuesday. There were 15,379 fresh cases, and over 60 per cent of them were reported in Chennai and its neighbouring districts of Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram.

As many as 3,043 people recovered from the disease and were discharged in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 27,17,686 leaving 75,083 active infections.

Chennai continued to remain above the 6,000-mark for a third consecutive day on Tuesday after 6,484 people tested positive for the viral disease.  With the latest figures, the total number of cases in the Tamilnadu capital climbed to 6,01,232, according to the State health department’s bulletin.

As many as 1,35,672 samples were tested for infection. The number of people being treated for corona infection has risen to 75,083.
