Chennai: Tamilnadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian has said that while fresh infections have presently seen a dip, there is scope for some increase after ‘Pongal’ holidays which end today.
‘While there has been an increase of about 2,000 cases per day over the last one week, the count only increased by nine or 10 in the past two days. It could be because of Pongal holidays, due to which many people did not come for testing,’ he said.
Subramanian said districts might witness a rise in cases too, as a lot of people from Chennai had travelled to their hometowns for the festival. The spread is high in Chennai and it accounts for 39.46 per cent of active cases.
The State has a total of 1.92 lakh beds for Covid-19 of which only 8,900 beds were occupied, he said, adding that in Chengalpattu, of the 10,360 beds, 456 beds were occupied to date, registering an occupancy rate of six per cent.
