Daily Covid cases near 30,000 in Tamilnadu

Chennai: Tamilnadu on Friday recorded 29,870 cases, pushing the caseload to 30,72,666.

With 33 deaths, the toll reached 37,145. As many as 21,684 people got discharged, leaving 1,87,358 active infections. A total of 1,54,282 samples were tested on Friday. The positivity rate stood at 19.36 per cent.

The drop in fresh cases continued for the fifth consecutive day in Chennai, while cases rose in the majority of the districts. Chennai logged 7,038 cases, while continuing to account for the most number of deaths in the State as 14 persons died of Covid-19 in the city. Recoveries exceeded new cases in the city as 8,164 patients were discharged.

Chennai was followed by Coimbatore 3,653, Chengalpet 2,250, Kanyakumari 1,248, Thiruvallur 1,016, and Salem 1,009 while the remaining was spread across other districts.

When compared to Thursday, more patients were discharged in the State. A total of 21,684 patients were discharged, taking the total recoveries to 28,48,163.
