Chennai: Asserting that Karnataka has no moral right to halt the Rs 4,600 crore second Hogenakkal Drinking water project, the main Opposition AIADMK has said Tamilnadu has every right to implement this project and pledged its support to it.
In a statement here, former Chief Minister and AIADMK coordinatorĀ O Panneerselvam said Karnataka has made it a habit of opposing whatever projects announced by Tamilnadu.
In these lines, Karnataka has now raised its objections to the second Hogenakkal Drinking water Project, which was announced by the DMK government headed by Chief Minister M K Stalin a few days back.
Strongly condemning Karnataka for its opposition to the project,Ā he said Tamilnadu was a lower riparian State in the sharing of
Cauvery river waters.
While refusing to release the legal quantum of water to Tamilnadu and having a habit of releasing surplus water after the reservoirs in its state had become full, Karnataka has no moral right or legally halt the Second Hogenakkal drinking water project, Panneerselvam said.
Stating that Tamilnadu has every right to implement this project, heĀ said the State government should definitely implement it and the AIADMKĀ will extend its full support to it.
