Chennai: The Tamilnadu government has directed the District Collectors not to conduct Grama Sabha meetings on 26 January due to the prevailing Covid-19 situation.
The Director of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department asked the Collectors to ensure the village panchayats did not convene any meeting on that day.
According to the order, ‘Collectors are requested to issue necessary directions to the village panchayats not to convene any Grama Sabha in village panchayats on Republic Day due to the prevailing Covid-19 situation and in the interest of the general public’.
It may be recalled that the State issued instructions to all District Collectors not to conduct Grama Sabha meetings on Independence Day too due to coronavirus spread.
Collectors were directed to visit houses of freedom fighters to honour them.
