Chennai: The Central Bureau of Investigation has taken over the probe into death by suicide of a Thanjavur teen, who alleged abuse by her hostel warden and attempt to convert her to Christianity.
According to sources, a case has been filed under four sections and the investigation has started.
This comes close on the heels of the Supreme Court on Monday refusing to interfere in a Madras High Court order transferring the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation amidst controversy sparked by a video on social media in which the girl allegedly said she was asked to convert to Christianity.
‘The investigation in terms of the impugned order (of Madras HC) will continue,’ a Bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Bela M Trivedi directed.
In the police statement as well as in the statement before the Judicial Magistrate, the girl was stated to have directly and in unambiguous terms accused the hostel warden of burdening her by assigning her non-academic chores and unable to bear the same, she consumed pesticide. The hostel warden Sister Saghayamary was arrested and is out on bail.
