Chennai: The much-awaited Ajith starrer ‘Valimai’ has finally hit the screens. Directed by H Vinoth, it features Ajith as a bravado cop on a mission. Add to it pulsating action sequences, racy bike stunts and some emotional family drama scenes, the movie ends up a fairly engrossing fare.

Besides Ajith, ‘Valimai’ features Kartikeya Gummakonda as a deadly baddie crossing swords with Ajith. Huma Qureshi, GM Sundar, Selva, veteran actress Sumithra among others form part of the cast. Music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja, camera by Nirav Shah and background score by Ghibran.

Arjun (Ajith) has a happy family of caring mom and a younger brother Raj Iyappa (Kutty), who is in search of a job.

Impressed with his good acts in Madurai in ending criminal menace, the Chennai City police brings him to the city to thwart a series of criminal acts. He along with his colleague Sofia Florence (Huma Qureshi) begins his task with little success.

But in the sequence of acts, he comes to know that a gang that operates virtually is behind the crimes. They have a modus operandi that is tough to crack. The gang is headed by Naren (Kartikeya). The cat and mouse game begins and soon Arjun finds out that the gang is behind chain-snatchings and smuggling drugs to city. The rest is all but how Arjun reigns supreme over Naren.

Ajith does a good act. He plays to his strength. He fists his muscles, uses his brains in solving mystery. Action scenes involving him are highlight. He impresses in well choreographed action scenes. Huma Qureshi chips in well.

Kartikeya plays a modern day baddie. He is more caricature at places. Raj Iyappa comes good. GM Sundar, who played his part well in recent films like Sarpatta and Mandela among others, is good. As a cop, he does an excellent show and has a part to play in the script.

Music by Yuvan and the opening song is already a chartbuster. Nirav Shah has captured motorcycle stunts well. H Vinoth has provided right treatment to the story. The twist towards the interval is good.

‘Valimai’ has everything an Ajith fan would want. Produced by Boney Kapoor and Zee Studios, it is a treat for the actor’s admirers.
