Chennai : Tamilnadu’s daily Covid tally touched 158 resembling the early days of the pandemic in April 2020. At the end of the day, the State discharged 512 people and there were 2,414 people still under treatment for the viral infection.

Among the districts, Chennai recorded 56 cases while Coimbatore registered 22 and Chengalpattu 18. As many as 11 districts in Tamil Nadu, such as Ariyalur, Dharmapuri, Dindigul, Kallakurichi, Mayiladuthurai, Perambalur, Pudukkotai, Ranipet, Thiruvarur, Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli, recorded no cases.

The State recorded two deaths– one each in Chennai and Thoothukudi. The overall case tally was 34,51,171 and toll stood at 38,017. A total of 43,382 samples were tested, taking the total number of samples tested to date to 6,47,54,613 in the State.

Meanwhile, Puducherry recorded zero Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. This was the first time that the Union Territory registered no cases in a day since the beginning of the outbreak in March 2020.
