Chennai: Officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) have seized 11.153 kg of gold jewellery, Rs 84 lakh in cash and details of crypto currency to the tune of Rs 34 lakh during searches on the premises of former Minister and AIADMK leader SP Velumani and others.
They have also seized mobile phones, locker keys of several banks and computer hard discs during the raid conducted on the premises of Velumani and of his 12 associates in six districts of Tamilnadu and in Kerala.
According to the first information report (FIR), Velumani and his family amassed Rs 58.2 crore wealth, disproportionate to the known sources of income, which constitutes 3928 per cent of his total income.
Searches were carried out in the second case of disproportionate assets against Velumani in 59 places across Tamilnadu. The DVAC sleuths conducted raids in six districts, including Coimbatore, Chennai, Salem, Namakkal, Krishnagiri and Tirupathur.
As per the FIR, it is further suspected that Mr. Velumani had also channelised his ill-gotten money to various other companies/firms in which Chandrasekar, Chandraprakash and their relatives are partners or shareholders or directors and have acquired many more assets and kept in the name of his relatives and associates in various places in and around Tamilnadu and outside.
