Chennai: Refuting Opposition AIADMK’s charges on non-fulfillment of poll promises made by the ruling DMK, Tamilnadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has said during the 10-month-long DMK rule 208 of the 505 promises made by it have been fulfilled.

Making a statement in the State Assembly as part of his reply to Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami’s charges on the issue, the Chief Minister listed out the schemes and several projects launched by his government in the last ten months in respect of all departments, as part of implementing the promises made during the Assembly polls last year.

Of the total 505 promises made in the election manifesto, 208 have been fulfilled, he said, amid thumping of desks by the members of the Treasury benches and listed them.

Stalin also listed out non-fulfillment of promises made by the AIADMK during the 2011 and 2016 Assembly polls and listed out them.

He said of the announcements made by AIADMK under Rule 110 in the Assembly during the last ten years from 2011-12 to 2020-21, 537 of them still only remained as an announcement and no follow-up action was taken on them.

He said 26 of the 537 announcements, the project estimates of which worked out to Rs 5,470 crore, were dropped as not feasible without even conducting a feasibility study.

‘Of this 19 announcements were made between 2011 and 2016 AIADMK rule’, Stalin pointed out.

He said of the above mentioned 537 announcement, Government Orders (Gos) were not issued in respect of 20 of them, involving a total cost of Rs 9,741 crore.

Of the 537, GOs were issued only in respect of 491 announcements. Of this only GOs were issued for 143 announcements involving a total cost of Rs 76,619 crore, but funds were not allowed and works have not commenced, the Chief Minister said and listed out the schemes which were not launched after announcing them in the State Assembly.

He said during the ten years of AIADMK rule, that party made 507 promises, which included 186 during 2011 poll manifesto and 321 in 2016 election manifesto.

‘Of the 507 announcements, GO were issued only to 269 of them’, Stalin said, adding, on the contrary, the ruling DMK in its ten-month-long rule had fulfilled 208 of the 505 promises made by it.

Since many of the announcements by the AIADMK under Rule 110 were made after presenting the budget, fund allocations were not made during the demand for grants for each department and they still remained only on paper, he said.

Stalin said the AIADMK’s charges against the DMK on poll promises was akin to asking the tenth standard marks to a 10-month-old child. ‘This child (DMK regime) will not only get first class in tenth standard, but will also win medals in graduation level’, the Chief Minister said.

Summing up his long statement, Stalin said ‘if any of the unfulfilled announcements made by the AIADMK in its ten year rule found to be beneficial to the people, we will fulfil them also keeping people’s interest in mind’.
