Covid-19: India records 1,685 new cases and 83 deaths

New Delhi: With 1,685 fresh infections, India’s Coronavirus caseload rose to 4,30,16,372.

According to Union Health Ministry data updated this morning, the country’s Covid-19 death toll climbed to 5,16,755 with 83 new fatalities.

The count of active cases has declined to 21,530 and the number of people who have recuperated from the disease in the country has surged to 4,24,78,087.

The cumulative number of doses administered in India so far under the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination drive has exceeded 182.55 crore.

India’s Covid-19 infection tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on 7 August, 2020, 30 lakh on 23 August, 40 lakh on 5 September, 50 lakh on 16 September, 60 lakh on 28 September, 70 lakh on 11 October, 80 lakh on 29 October, 90 lakh on 20 November and the one-crore mark on 19 December, 2020.

The country crossed the grim milestones of two crore cases on 4 May, 2021 and three crore on 23 June.

The Health Ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to co-morbidities.
