Chennai: The Madras High Court has set aside an order passed by a special court refusing copies of documents filed in the job scam cases pending against Minister Senthil Balaji to the Enforcement Directorate on technical grounds.
Senthil Balaji is now the Electricity Minister. The case pertains to complaints filed by victims against Senthil Balaji when he was the Transport Minister in the AIADMK government during 2011-2015. It is alleged he received huge amounts as bribe from 149 persons for appointing them as Conductors and Drivers in the State Transport Corporations.
A Division Bench of Justices PN Prakash and AA Nakkiran passed the orders on Wednesday while quashing an order of the special court, which denied the ED the unmarked document copies. The order was made on a petition filed by Karthik Dasari, deputy director of ED.
ASG R Sankaranarayan, appearing for the ED, submitted that the prosecution initiated by the police was quashed by the HC and ‘once the prosecution of the scheduled offence is quashed, the documents that have been filed by the police, in that case, would not get marked, obviously because, there would be no trial.’
