Chennai: FICCI FLO, the women’s wing of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, today signed an MoU with the Anna University to help upskilling of 1.500 women students from 19 engineering colleges across Tamilnadu.
Titled Campus to Corporate Skilling Programme, it will consist of ten sessions spread over a period of five weeks which will culminate with a graduation ceremony, along with a certificate of completion that is worth two credits from their university.
The plan is to start with 1,500 women students from the colleges. In keeping with the reality that colleges from Tier 2 and 3 cities have a disadvantage in getting the same opportunities, FLO has ensured that 16 of the 19 engineering colleges where this programme will be done are Tier 2 & 3 cities, according, to a FICCI FLO release.
‘FLO Chennai is attempting to provide value added skills and making our women students corporate ready. Industry leaders today want industry ready engineers and, as a responsible business body, we at FICCI FLO felt
the need to take the lead, along with Anna University, to help industry by upskilling its potential workforce,’ said Prasanna Vasanadu, chairperson, FICCI FLO Chennai.
The upskilling programme aims to facilitate a smooth transition for students from their campus environments to that of a corporate and increasing chances of their success in that environment.
The initiative involves teaching them to create effective resumes, improve their interview skills and helping make them mentally tough to manage the stress in the workplace.
‘Discussions our faculty had with Vanitha Venugopal, FLO Skilling Head and alumnus of Anna University, led to identifying gaps in the transition from the college to the workplace’, she said.
‘FICCI FLO’s dedication to upskill the women of the engineering colleges to get them corporate ready is commendable, and we look forward to our students benefiting from the programme,’ Anna University Vice Chancellor
Prof R Velraj said.
