Fishermen urged to help ensure coastal security


Chennai: Indian Coast Guard Eastern Region conducted a special awareness programme for fisher folk of Tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh to educate them about safety of life at sea and their importance in coastal security.

As part of the event, 200 community interaction programmes were conducted by Indian Coast Guard units of Eastern Region at 188 villages of 24 coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh and Tamilnadu in the month of March 2022, said an official release.

‘Fishermen were imparted with hands-on training on Safety Equipment, Communication Equipment, First Aid on general injuries and snake bite at sea. During the interaction the role of fishermen as ‘Eye and Ears’ in ensuring Coastal Security of the country was also emphasised. About ten thousand fishermen along with Fisheries Authorities and other stakeholders participated,’ it added.
