Chennai: Chief Minister M K Stalin has said the ruling DMK would ensure 10.5 per cent internal reservation for Vanniyars in the same manner it had achieved 7.5 per cent quota for government school students in medicine and other professional courses.
Replying to Speciall Call Attention give notice of by members of various
parties in the State Assembly during Zero Hour, he said the Supreme Court
has clearly stated that the Assembly and the State government has powers
(for enacting law on quota).
Observing that he was not ready to go into the issue that ‘the reservation is
temporary’ since it was an important issue of Tamilnadu’s social justice and
special reservation, he said the government will hold discussions with legal experts and definitely uphold social justice.

Palaniswami’s charge that the government lost the case as it had not engaged
top lawyers to put forth the arguments, Stalin listed out the names of senior
counsels who had effectively argued the case on behalf of the government.
‘The court has placed on record its appreciation for the work of the advocates,’ he said.
