Chennai: Tamil political parties in Sri Lanka haveappealed to Tamilnadu Chief Minister M K Stalin not to limit food and medical assistance from the State only to Tamils but all citizens of the island country.
According to Tamil National Alliance (TNA) leader M A Sumanthiran, ‘the assistance from India, especially Tamilnadu, is most welcome. But considering the magnitude of the crisis and given everyone is suffering, the help should go to all be it Tamils, Sinhalese, Muslims, or Christians. Like the Indian assistance, the help from TN should also reach all.’
Late last week, Stalin had dialled up External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and discussed the prevailing economic crisis in Sri Lanka, while urging him to help the Lankan Tamils hit by the crisis.
An official release here said the Chief Minister expressed deep concern over the Tamils living in Northern and Eastern Provinces and those in Colombo who were hit hard by the unprecedented economic crisis and said the Tamilnadu government was ready to help them by sending essential commodities like rice, dhal and life saving drugs through sea from Tuticorin Port.
