Chennai: The Tamilnadu government has ordered a CB-CID probe into the alleged rape of a woman research scholar of IIT-Madras and her complaint of sexual harassment by her co-scholars.
According to the 30-year-old Dalit woman, Kingshuk Debsharma, a co-scholar, had sexual harassed and rape her between 2016 and 2020. She had filed a complaint at the all-women police station, Mylapore, in March 2020. A case was registered against eight persons.
Recently, the All-India Democratic Womenās Association (AIDWA) had sought CB-CID probe into the case, citing irregularities and delay in investigation by city police.
AIDWA had complained that though the victim has mentioned sexual assault by the accused, her co-scholars, in her complaint lodged in 2021, the FIR did not include the sections for rape and SC/ST Act.
