Chennai: Applications for admissions under the RTE Act in private schools will be available from today in Tamilnadu.

The State School Education department has released the admission schedule for 25 per cent of seats reserved in LKG and Class I in private schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.

As per the Act, private schools need to reserve 25 per cent of their seats at entry level for children hailing from economically and socially disadvantaged sections.

Applications are available at rte.tnschools.gov.in. The application window will be open till 18 May. Applications can be obtained from schools as well. Schools should provide them with acknowledgement in the format prescribed by the education department. Parents can also approach district and block education offices.

A Karuppaswami, Director of Matriculation Schools, said, ‘Parents will have to apply online at the dedicated portal for RTE Admissions and applications can be submitted until May 18. The list of schools will be uploaded on www.rte.tnschools.gov.in and parents can check for the schools and seats available in their district.’

Last year, there were around 1.08 lakh seats available under the RTE Act across private schools in the State. A total of 56,166 students were enrolled in schools under the Act which was a dip from the previous years.

Applications for admissions under the RTE Act in private schools will be available from today in Tamilnadu.
