Gold worth Rs 57 lakh seized at Chennai airport


Chennai: Based on specific intelligence, two passengers namely Abubacker of Seven Hills, Chennai and Mohammed Milkhan of Karaikudi, who arrived from Dubai by an Emirates flight were intercepted by the Customs officers at the Chennai airport.

‘On search of their person, four bundles and four band strips of gold paste form were recovered. The bundles were concealed in their rectum and the band strips were ingeniously concealed by stitching in the waist belt of jean pants worn by the passenger.
The recovered gold totally weighing 1.18 kg valued at Rs 57.07 lakh was seized under the Customs Act, 1962. One was arrested.’

Further investigations are under progress, according to a press release issued by Principal Commissioner of Customs, Chennai International Airport.
