Chennai: In a fresh influx of Sri Lankan Tamils, 18 more have reached Tamilnadu by sea.

They had arrived in India seeking refuge from the economic crisis that has thrown Sri Lanka into turmoil.

The Marine Police, who found them, brought them to their station and conducted an inquiry. A woman said she had paid over 2 lakh in Sri Lankan currency to a boat operator to cross the international maritime border.

Meanwhile, protests continued in the island nation against President Gotabaya Rajapakse and his cabinet.
