Chennai: The Saidapet Magistrate Court has filed a case against producers of Jai Bhim Suriya and Jyothika folloqing a complaint by president of Vanniyakula Kashatriyar Sangam Santosh Naicker for defaming their community.
Remember a few months ago Vanniyar Sangam had filed a criminal defamation complaint against Suriya, director Gnanavel and Amazon India claiming that their film, Jai Bhim, had depicted Vanniyar community in a bad light.
The complaint filed in a Chidambaram court wanted action against the actor, director and OTT platform for criminal defamation, threatening to cause injury to reputation, and provocation to break public peace under IPC.
According to the complaint, certain scenes have been incorporated in the movie deliberately to give a false impression in the minds of the viewers and in the minds of the people of other communities to the effect that the people belonging to Vanniyar community have been habitually oppressing the underprivileged in the society.
Under the guise of freedom of expression, the makers of the film cannot defame and insult a particular section of the society, the complaint added.
