NT Bureau: Assembly witnessed war of words exchanged over custodial death of Vignesh, who was taken into custody by the Purasawalkam police in Chennai on 18 April.
While the police said that he died due to seizures, the autopsy report revealed that there were 13 injury marks on his body.
The Chief Minister said, ‘murder charges would be slapped on the policemen who took Vignesh into custody after which he was found dead’.
The Vignesh custodial death case was transferred to the CB-CID by the Chief Minister after allegations were raised against police officials and their attempts to cover up the alleged custodial death.
However calling a special attention motion in the Assembly, Edappadi Palaniswami said, ‘The truth will be out only if a CBI probe is ordered in the case.’
Not satisfied with Chief Minister’s reply, the Opposition AIADMK staged a walk out
Later talking to press persons, Palaniswami said, ‘The handling of the whole issue by the State government raises many doubts. Initially they said Vignesh after having dinner developed seizure and was taken to Government Hospital where he died. But the autopsy report say he had grave injuries on his body.’
Now with Chief Minister himself ordering slapping of murder charges on police men raises more questions. A free and fair proble by CBI would alone bring out the truth’.
