Tamilnadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin announced an assistance of Rs one lakh each to six people, who were trapped when a huge boulder rolled down and fell into a 250 ft deep stone quarry pit at Adaimithippankulam near Munneerpallam in Tirunelveli district.
Police sources said so far three people were rescued from the debris and efforts were on to rescue the other three.
After the authorities rescued two people, the third person was rescued after a marathon 17 hour operation by the police, fire and NDRF personnel.
In a statement, the Chief Minister said six people–Murugan, Vijay, Selvam, Muruga, Rajendran and Selvakumar–were trapped. Of them Murugan and Vijay were rescued and admitted to hospital, even as the rescue operations were on, he said.
He said he has deputed Backward Classes Minister Rajakannappan, the Revenue and Disaster Management Secretary and the Directof of Mining to the spot to oversee the relief operations.
Stating that a probe was on by the police and that proper action will be taken, Stalin announced a relief of Rs 0ne lakh each to the six people.
