Fuel rates cut, subsidy on gas cylinders announced


The Centre today reduced excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 8 and Rs 6 per litre respectively. This will reduce the price of petrol by Rs 9.5 per litre and of diesel by Rs 7 per litre.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tweeted, ‘It is always people first for us. Today’s decisions, especially the one relating to a significant drop in petrol and diesel prices will positively impact various sectors, provide relief to our citizens and further ‘Ease of Living’.’
She also said, ‘Import duty on some raw materials of steel will be reduced’.

A subsidy of Rs 200 per gas cylinder to over 9 crore beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana has been announced. Now, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries will get Rs 200 subsidy directly in their bank accounts.
