Chennai : Rear Admiral S Venkat Raman has assumed charge as the Flag Officer Commanding Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Naval Area (FOTNA). He took charge from Rear Admiral Puneet Chadha, in a ceremonial parade held at INS Adyar. Rear Adm Chadha, who took over as the FOTNA on Jun 30, 2020, will be proceeding to New Delhi to assume charge as the Additional Director General of National Cadet Corps. Rear Admiral Venkat Raman was commissioned into the Indian Navy on January one, 1990. He is an alumni of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and the College of Defence Management, Hyderabad.

The Flag Officer is a specialist in Communications and Electronic Warfare, and has tenanted various appointments on frontline warships of the Indian Navy, according to a Defence release.
His sea tenures include command of the stealth frigate INS Tabar and second in command of the Aircraft Carrier INS Viraat.

His significant staff appointments include a tenure as the Fleet Communications Officer Western Fleet and as the head of the Directorate of Naval Intelligence at the Naval Headquarters.
Prior to taking over as the Flag Officer Commanding Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Naval Area, he held the appointment of the Commandant, Naval War College, Goa. He was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal in 2019.
