Chennai: Dheekshitars at the famous Chidambaram Sri Natarajan temple have sought protection for their lives following protests near the temple premises.
In a letter addressed to President Ramnath Govind, Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, they said, ‘We maintain the temple and take care of the temple affairs as per rituals.’
However frequent protests near the place of worship have put a question mark on our safety. With permission accorded to all to visit Kanagasabai to offer prayers, we fear safety. Our livelihood is affected too’.
‘Hence the authorities concerned should look into the issue, provide security adequately and ensure our safety’.
