Chennai : Chennai city witnessed its first ever mega flower show this weekend, organised by Tamilnadu Horticulture department The exhibition was inaugurated by Chepauk MLA Udhayanidhi Stalin in the presence of Minister for Agriculture MRK Panneerselvam and Health Minister Ma Subramanian. All major cut flowers from the State, including rose, ginger lily, chrysanthemum, celosia, carnation, alstroemeria, lilyums, orchids, gerbera, gladiolus, anthurium rank, and bird of paradise, have been used. The exhibits depict the acts of seven Tamil kings of the Sangam age, who were known for their charitable acts, and achievements of the State government. The exhibition also has stalls displaying dry flower arrangements, bonsai, cacti, and succulents. Ornamental and potted plants as well as various vegetables and fruits were also showcased.The show, which had over 10 lakh cut flowers from the departmentās 78 horticulture farms, a majority of them in Hosur and Krishnagiri and tulips from The Netherlands, also had 10,000 potted plants, all tastefully arranged by 300 staff. Says Shreestha, who visited the show, said,’It is catchy and colourful. Beautifully arranged and presented well’. We have seen such arrangements of flowers only in Ooty before. To see it in Chennai is a delight. It should be made an annual affair, says Suresh, a marketing executive. The flowers are colorful. They are organised in such a way that it attracts our attention. I thank Tamilnadu Horticulture department for the beautiful event’, says Faizal, a government employee. To watch various varieties of flowers under one roof displayed in an attractive manner gives one joy. I appreciate the efforts taken by the Tamilnadu Horticulture department, says Ganapathy, a student. Chief Minister MK Stalin visited the flower show Sunday. He spent some time along with Ministers Durai Murugan and K N Nehru, walking around the floral arrangements and seeing the cut vegetables and fruit displays.
