Discussions continued for third day today at the residence of AIADMK convenor and former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam on the issue of single leadership in the party.
Senior leaders of the party Vaithilingam and Manoj Pandian were closeted with OPS since morning. With just a week to go for AIADMK’s general council meeting, today’s meeting assumes greater significance.
After J Jayalalithaaâs death in 2016, her long-time aide V K Sasikala was appointed as interim general secretary, but EPS and OPS joined hands to keep the latter and her family away from the AIADMK. To ensure that the party stays united, OPS and EPS experimented with a dual leadership for the first time in the history of AIADMK â they introduced amendments to the bye-laws of the party to allow them to get elected through a single-vote system.
Meanwhile in the district secretaries meet held on Tuesday, a majority of them stressed the need for single leadership in the AIADMK. A few of the participants at the meeting mentioned the name of co-coordinator Palaniswami to lead the AIADMK. A few others batted for OPS.
