After the controversial AIADMK general council on Thursday that saw a majority of partymen rallying behind Edapaddi K Palaniswami, former Chief Minister and senior party leader O Pannerselvam, chose to go into a huddle with his supporters. Meanwhile, the leaders of either camps are indulging in war of words over single leadership issue. Allegations and counter-allegations are the order of the day.
Addressing media persons, OPS loyalist Kovai Selvaraj said, ‘Without the approval of co-ordinator of the party ( Paneerselvam), general council cannot be convened. It is unlawful and illegal’, he said.
As part Rule 43 of the AIADMK by-law, OPS continues to be co-ordinator. There is no truth in former Minister C Ve Shanmugham’s claim that he ceases to be co-ordinator, he said and added, ‘Cadres are behind Pannerselvam. They wanted to come to Chennai and show their solidarity for him. OPS will continue to guide the party’. He denied media reports that a complaint has been filed Election Commission.
Meanwhile, D Jayakumar speaking to press persons said, ‘The whole party stands behind EPS. We will bring back Jayalalithaa’s rule under EPS soon. A majority of AIADMK cadres have lost faith in OPS’ leadership’.
