India thrash Bangladesh by 188 runs in first test

India took a 1-0 lead in their two-test series against Bangladesh after winning the first test in Chittagong by 188 runs as the hosts were bowled out for 324 on the final day of play on Sunday. Axar Patel picked four wickets and Kuldeep Yadav took three in the second innings, while Zakir Hasan top-scored for the home side with a century on day four. India, who have never lost a Test to Bangladesh, hit 404 in their first innings before skittling out the hosts for 150. Centuries from Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara allowed India to build up a huge second-innings lead before declaring on 258-2 late on day three. Bangladesh rarely looked like getting closer to their victory target, despite a gutsy century from opener Zakir Hasan on his Test debut. The second Test begins on Thursday in Mirpur. KL Rahul, said, ‘We’ve been here for a while. The one-day series didn’t go how we wanted it to, the results didn’t go our way. It was important that we turned up and performed well in the Test series. It was a hard-fought Test match and we had to really work hard for this win. Really happy that we did that. It (pitch) did flatten out, it didn’t worry us but it looked like the batters were batting very comfortably and getting runs easily. Getting runs was very hard for the first three days. It was a slow pitch, not much in the wicket for batters to get runs easily. The way their openers batted, made it harder for us and we knew that we had to work hard for our wickets. Even when the partnership was going, our intensity was really high. We’ve played Test cricket for a while and we know that no victory comes easy. We batted well in the first innings as well.
