ODI rankings: Virat gets 6th spot; Rohit, Siraj make gains

India batting heavyweights Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and pacer Mohammed Siraj made notable jumps in the latest ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings issued on Wednesday. Kohli scored a stunning century in India’s victory against Sri Lanka in the first ODI in Guwahati on Tuesday, and has moved up two spots to 6th, as per ICC. Rohit Sharma also scored an aggressive 83 and has gained a spot to sit at 8th. Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka scored a fighting ton despite his side losing and has gained 20 spots to move to 61. In the bowling charts, Mohammed Siraj is the biggest gainer after scalping two wickets in the first ODI, moving up four spots to 18. In the T20I rankings charts, Suryakumar Yadav continues his reign at the top of the batting charts, driven by his brilliant century in the third T20I against Sri Lanka. Such has been his exploits in the format, Kohli broke into praise for his teammate, who was interviewing him following the Guwahati ODI. “What you are doing in the last year is something that is very special. Something that I have not seen before,” Kohli said in the interview on BCCI.tv. “You are creating a different template. You are creating a different energy. I can see in the crowds when you go. There is genuine love and genuine affection because of the way you are playing. It is amazing to see and I wish you all the best,” added Kohli. Shakib Al Hasan remains the top-ranked all-rounder in the shortest format, while Wanindu Hasaranga is displaced by Rashid Khan as the top-ranked bowler following his struggles in the series against India. Meanwhile, Australia’s star performers from their Test series win against South Africa have been richly rewarded in the latest ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings. Usman Khawaja was the biggest mover, following his stunning century in the third and final Test against South Africa in Sydney – he moves up to 8th in the Men’s Test batters’ rankings.
