Chief minister M K Stalin on Wednesday gave a clarion call to cadres to dethrone BJP at the Centre to protect democracy in India. Kicking off the party’s campaign for the 2024 parliamentary election, Stalin said if BJP comes to power, democracy will cease to exist in India. Addressing booth-level agents of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) from the Cauvery delta districts at a meeting held at Ramji Nagar in Tiruchi, Mr. Stalin said the Central and Manipur governments had failed to control the violence in the northeastern State, which erupted as a result of politics of hatred, similar to the 2002 Gujarat riots. He also criticised AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami for maintaining silence on the Manipur violence.
