World’s top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz advances in US Open

Washington, Sept 4:  World’s top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz stormed into the US Open‘s round of 16 on Saturday, while second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka secured her place in the women’s draw. Meanwhile, Coco Gauff beats Caroline Wozniacki 6-3 3-6 6-1 for quarter-final spot. Says Gauff, ‘“Definitely getting it to 2-1 in the last set was the turning point. I got broken in the first game and showed I was still in the match after breaking back.

“I was still being aggressive but Caroline’s back and it’s like she never left. The level that she’s played today is really amazing, and she’s been an inspiration for me growing up.

“It’s a little bit weird. I grew up watching Caroline, I remember watching her win the Australian Open when everybody was saying all sorts of things about her. “So to be out on the court with her today was an honour.”She added, ‘”My whole box were cheering for me. They’re the ones that are giving me the game plan. Sometimes I do tell them to chill a little bit.”I like to think and figure out matches my own way. Their advice helps, I do listen but sometimes it’s a stress reaction.“The one thing that’s different is that my dad’s not in the box anymore because he gets too nervous. He’s been doing laps around the stadium. I don’t know if he can hear me but I felt his good energy even if I couldn’t see him.”
