Stalin urges MEA to get TN fishermen released

Chief Minister M K Stalin of Tamil Nadu has called upon the Union External Affairs Ministry to take immediate action to secure the release of 17 Tamil Nadu fishermen who are currently detained by the Sri Lankan Navy. The fishermen, hailing from various coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, were apprehended by Sri Lankan authorities while they were pursuing their livelihoods in the waters of the Palk Strait, a region that has been a subject of disputes between India and Sri Lanka in the past. Stalin expressed deep concern over the detention of these fishermen and emphasised the need for diplomatic efforts to ensure their safe return. The fishing communities along the Tamil Nadu coast have frequently found themselves caught in the crossfire of maritime disputes between India and Sri Lanka. The livelihoods of thousands of fishermen and their families are at stake due to these recurring confrontations.
